Cagliari city tour will open the doors for you to discover the amazing heritage of this ancient city.

Seeing the first settlements in the Neolithic age (6000 – 3000 BC) and centuries later becoming a strategic and bustling port in the Mediterranean under the Phoenicians, Cagliari preserves also important traces of the Roman domination such as the Roman Amphitheatre and Villa Tigellio. Christianity brought to Cagliari important characters like S. Agostino. Under the Vandals it was confronted with a period of decline which lasted until the Byzantine Empire; from this period we know the Giudicati (9th – 10th centuries) a form of self-government under the rule of the King, the supreme Magistrate (Judex sive Rex) separated from the Empire and the Church, a regime which granted a relative political independence and autonomy to the island. In the 13th century, with the decline of the Giudicato of Cagliari, we can establish the arrival of the Pisans which have fortified the upper part of the town with ramparts, buttresses, forts and towers visible even today in Castello, Stampace, Marina and Villanova. In 1324 the island passes under the rule of the Aragons and the Catalans which proclaimed the Spanish Government and causing much resentment among the people. Change occurred in 1717 after the treaty of Utrecht which followed the Spanish War of Succession. A short Austrian rule attempt, followed by an administration under the Savoia and after the Piemonte, the last one being important as it signed the transformation of Cagliari in a modern town. After the WWII Cagliari changed dramatically: around the old settlements the new city developed and over 20 years doubled the number of dwellings, destination for the people of the surrounding areas.

What we discover today is a complex city which developed in complete harmony with the island.

The best way to know Cagliari it is a by doing a tour of the surrounding areas followed by a relaxing stroll through its historical centre.

Cagliari city tour it is without doubt an unforgettable experience wright in the heart of one of  the oldest cities in the Mediterranean where you can try exceptional food and wine.
